Overview
Save Source Image is a Chrome extension developed by Dino Latoga. It processes image-source information in your browser only after you choose Save source image from an image’s context menu. For network URLs, Chrome then contacts the selected website or content delivery network to perform the requested download.
Information handled
For the image you clicked and matching image elements in the clicked frame, the extension temporarily reads:
- the image URL supplied by Chrome’s context menu;
- the matching image element’s resolved
currentSrc; and - the matching image element’s literal
src.
This information is classified as website content. The extension uses it only to select the image URL for the download you requested. It does not collect a list of pages you visit, page titles, visit times, or browsing history.
How information is used
The extension compares the browser-rendered image URL with the source declared by the page, chooses a usable source, and passes that URL to Chrome’s download manager. Page content and URLs are treated as untrusted input and are validated and bounded before they reach privileged Chrome APIs.
Collection, sharing, and retention
Save Source Image does not send website content or browsing information to the developer or to any developer-operated service. It has no analytics, telemetry, advertising, user accounts, backend, or extension-managed persistent storage.
The extension does not sell user data or transfer it to unrelated third parties. Chrome sends the selected URL to its image host only to complete the download you requested. The extension does not retain user data after the requested operation finishes.
Network requests and downloads
For network URLs, the selected image host receives Chrome’s normal request for the image. Chrome may send browser-managed cookies, follow redirects, record the download in Chrome’s download history, or sync browser-managed information according to your Chrome settings. The website’s own privacy policy governs its handling of requests. These browser and website activities are not developer-operated data collection by Save Source Image.
Permissions
contextMenus
Adds the single Save source image command when you right-click an image.
activeTab
Provides temporary access to the current tab only after you invoke the command, avoiding permanent access to every website.
scripting
Runs a small packaged inspector in the clicked frame to read the matching image element’s declared source. There is no persistent content script.
downloads
Passes the selected URL to Chrome’s download manager and suggests a clean filename for downloads initiated by the extension.
Remote code
All executable code is included in the extension package. Save Source Image does not load external scripts, execute fetched code, use eval, or import remote modules.
Your choices and deletion
Because the extension does not store user or browsing data, there is no extension-held history to delete. You can remove downloaded files and Chrome download-history entries using Chrome or operating-system controls. You can disable or uninstall the extension at any time.
Limited Use
Save Source Image’s use of information received from Chrome APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Information is used only to provide the extension’s single user-facing purpose. It is not used for advertising, creditworthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes.
Changes to this policy
If the extension’s data practices change, this policy and the Chrome Web Store disclosures will be updated before the changed behavior is released. The effective date at the top of this page identifies the current version.
